Downloading Firefox is a free web browser, and it has gained a 20 percent market share since its release in 2004. To most, Mozilla Firefox is just an internet browser like ‘Internet Explorer’ by Microsoft.

Actually, Firefox was developed by the Mozilla project, which became the Mozilla Foundation, a non-profit. For about ten years, Mozilla’s programmers and many independent programmers have developed and refined Firefox, the Netscape browser, a variety of other browsers, development tools and more.

The purpose of the non-profit is to keep the web in the public sphere. So much of the internet is dominated by corporations, commercialism and junk. The idea was to spread control of the programming to many programmers rather than allow the internet to be dominated by a handful of for-profit corporations.

As a non-profit, Firefox presumably does not pay business taxes, and it has the ability to recruit donations that are tax-deductible for its donors. The Mozilla Foundation is supported by other non-profits, private foundations and companies who seem to share its community-building vision.

By establishing itself as a non-profit organization, it is not forced to satisfy stock-holders. It does, however, have to adhere to the government’s strict guidelines for non-profit organizations.

There are many pro’s of using Firefox as your browser and few cons. Firefox is clearly faster to use, and even someone who it not technical will notice the difference once they have switched over from Internet Explorer. When surfing the Internet, web pages load slower in IE, but there is no way of knowing this unless you have used a faster browser.

Another important benefit to using Firefox is that it is less susceptible to an attack from a virus. Granted the security in Firefox is good, but much of security against virus attack simply is due to fewer viruses being programmed to infiltrate Firefox. Every time you hear about a new virus that infiltrates a browser, almost always it will be Internet Explorer. This is because this browser is so popular.

Internet Explorer on the other hand, comes with every new computer and people simply start using it right away. It is made to work with your computer and can be set up for use with the Internet quickly by anyone, regardless of their skills with a computer. Every website is compatible with Internet Explorer, and while it is becoming more rare, there are some websites that will not work with Firefox. Still, Firefox is the browser of choice for those who are computer and Internet savvy.

One of the great advantages of using Mozilla’s Firefox as your default browser is its awesome speed and power. Firefox is a real powerhouse, but be sure you have enough RAM, as it can eat some of that up. One “gig” of RAM is usually enough, but two gigs RAM or higher is better. Also a dual-core processor also helps when running Firefox. The other great thing about Firefox is that all their hundreds of applications, add-on, plug-ins, extensions, etc., are open-source. This is the opposite of some of the other explorer-type browsers, which are corporations with vested interests in profits. No other browser really has the number of add-on that Firefox has. Of course some people like the simplicity and no-frills appearance of the other browsers. But if you really want to dress up the appearance of your browser, with tons of themes and personas to choose from, definitely go with Firefox. You will be able to get real-time weather reports and displays, all sorts of different toolbars, file management options, video playback options, music add-ons, the list is endless. You can even rearrange your browser layout and colors of your tabs. Check out the latest version of Firefox today, you won’t be disappointed!

The last update of Mozilla Firefox included many new security features, making it the most secure browser Mozilla has released. If you access a site that can possibly attack your computer, Mozilla will tell you why it is not safe for you to access that site. The browser will work with your anti-virus software to automatically check all downloads for malware and viruses. Private Browsing Mode is an available option that allows you to opt out of saving your browsing history. Firefox also gives you the option of not allowing behavioral tracking. The Forget This Site features allows you to delete every trace of ever having visited. For users of windows seven who wish to block what their children may access on the computer, Firefox can enforce the parental controls that you have set on your computer. If you wish to learn more about a site you visit, the Site Identity Button can give you information like site’s owner and verification status. Another important feature is that Firefox let’s you decide what security features you want the browser to employ and allows you to customize your security settings. Mozilla has gone to great lengths to ensure that its users will have a safe and secure browsing experience.

With Firefox you can get to your favorite websites fast whether you remember the URLs or not. It’s the auto-complete function that makes it possible for you to find what you are looking for quickly. Just type your keyword into the location bar and possible matches will spring up from several areas. The search will bring up URLs from your browsing history, bookmarks and open tabs.

Firefox’s location bar is sometimes nicknamed “The Awesome Bar” because it gets you to where you want to go fast. It does this by “learning” as you use it. It begins to anticipate your preferences and then offers better suited matches. Firefox has even upped the ability to increase your control over the results of your searches and has provided better privacy settings. Overall the improvements seen in the lastest version of the Firefox browser is dramatically faster than the once mighty Internet Explorer.

In fact, since its inception, Internet Explorer has led the browser pack in terms of numbers of users. In just the last few years Firefox has taken off and millions more are using this browser. Much of this has to do with the search speed and number of convenient features the Firefox program has to offer.
